Dear Fellow Freshers,
Welcome to IIT Kharagpur! As we start this exciting journey together, I wanted to share a recent adventure I had on campus that led me to discover something truly special - Technology Students' Gymkhana, or TSG.
It all started when I was wandering around campus, taking in the sights and sounds of our new home. As I strolled past a bustling area, I noticed a large building with an impressive number of cycles parked outside. The place was buzzing with activity, and my curiosity got the better of me. I approached the building and saw the words "Student Activity Centre" emblazoned at the top.
Intrigued, I decided to venture inside. As I walked through the entrance, I was greeted by the sight of various rooms, gyms, and courts. The place was alive with students engaged in different activities. But what really caught my eye was a beautiful lake behind the Gymkhana, adding a touch of tranquillity to the lively atmosphere.
As I continued exploring, I noticed names written on the walls, listing the previous councils of the Gymkhana. It was clear that this place held a significant history and played an important role in campus life. Amidst the rooms, I spotted two people working diligently in one of the offices so I decided to introduce myself and learn more.
I approached them and asked about the Gymkhana and who they were. That's when I met Muskan Khemka and Vihaan S Kumar, the Editors, Technology Students' Gymkhana. They were incredibly friendly and eager to share their experiences with me.
Muskan, a third-year undergraduate from the Department of Geology and Geophysics, explained that the Editorship at TSG began in the academic year 2017-2018. Since then, the Editors have been crucial in ensuring smooth communication between the Institute and the student community. Beyond her editorial skills, Muskan is a dessert maestro, her delightful treats have the magical ability to melt even the grumpiest professor's heart! With a passion for nature, a knack for psychology, and a heart full of creativity, Muskan brings a touch of magic to everything she does, making the world just a bit more wonderful.
Vihaan, a third-year undergraduate from the Department of Electrical Engineering, has a passion for late-night talks and with an insatiable love for coffee(he plans to start a good coffee place here in KGP), he's the perfect companion for midnight musings. As a member of the debating society, he enjoys engaging in impromptu debates which start with a simple question and stretch into the early hours. His taste in music ranges across all genres—from classical symphonies to the latest beats.
Together, Muskan and Vihaan are responsible for the Illumination Magazine and the Annual Gymkhana Magazine. They also play key roles in the Mess Management and Food Management committees, ensuring we get the best dining experiences on campus. Plus, they have exclusive access to the TSG blog, where they showcase their creative writing skills and share immersive content.
They told me about their work revising the official Gymkhana Constitution, formulating the Institute's official content, and conducting the Gymkhana's literary competitions. And yes, they have access to all the insider gossip on campus!
The Editors are dedicated to putting forward the collective opinions of the student bodies in the best possible light. They listen to our complaints, concerns, and opinions about everything happening around us and make sure our voices are heard.
Let's actively engage in the various events hosted by the Technology Students’ Gymkhana. Embrace the opportunity to transform into the person you've always dreamed of becoming. And who knows, maybe one day, we'll be the ones shaping the future of TSG as Editors!
Welcome aboard, fellow KGPian. Let's make the most of our time here and create unforgettable memories together!
Warm regards,
Fellow Freshman
